Grooves between the teeth allow the dirt to be shifted from under the chain and this reduces chain load. All that dirt is abrasive and will prematurely damage your sprockets and chain. I don’t often leave reviews but credit where it’s due, I’ve bought trials bikes from most of the trials shops now. Bought one from John lees. Purchased on a dinner break over the phone and the bike was packed, shipped and arrived to me within 24 hours. Small issue with the bike but Chas went way out of his way to help and got it sorted. Purchased my first 2T here, a Beta 200. It was strange, I’d tell friends where I was buying it and they all told me, “oh Chas will look after you.” And look after me he did!
